Two tragic road accidents in Maharashtra and Gujarat on Monday have claimed a total of 18 lives, leaving several others injured.
The incidents, which occurred within hours of each other, have once again raised serious concerns about road safety on Indian highways.
11 People Dead In Thane, Maharashtra After A Van Collides With A Cement Mixer
11 Killed in Thane AccidentA major accident was reported in Maharashtras Thane district around 11:30 am on the Kalyan-Murbad National Highway 61 near Govili village.
According to officials, a van collided head-on with a cement mixer coming from the opposite direction on the Raita bridge. The impact of the collision was severe, causing panic among locals who rushed to the spot to rescue the injured.
Five people died on the spot, while several others later succumbed to their injuries, taking the death toll to 11. Many injured victims were immediately shifted to nearby hospitals, where some are reported to be in critical condition.
Police have registered a case and initiated an investigation to find out the exact cause of the accident.
Seven Killed in Gujarat Road MishapIn another tragic incident in Gujarats Surendranagar district, seven people lost their lives in the early hours of Monday.
The accident took place around 1:30 am on the Lakhtar-Viramgam highway near Bhaskarpara village in Lakhtar taluka. The victims were a group of pilgrims travelling on foot from Rajkot to the Bahucharaji temple when a speeding truck hit them from behind.
