Baramulla MP Rashid Engineer requests interim bail to visit ill father

Baramulla MP Abdul Rashid Sheikh, also known as Rashid Engineer, has applied for one month’s interim bail to visit his seriously ill and hospitalised father.

Rashid Engineer is currently in judicial custody at Tihar Jail in connection with a terror funding case investigated by the National Investigation Agency (NIA).

The application was heard by Additional Sessions Judge Prashant Sharma in a closed courtroom, where the court verified the status and considered submissions from both sides.

Advocate Vikhyat Oberoi, alongside Nishita Gupta, represented Rashid Engineer, emphasising the critical condition of his father and pleading for interim bail.

Special Public Prosecutor Gautam Khazanchi opposed the interim bail request on various grounds but suggested that Rashid Engineer could be granted custody parole to meet his father.

Following the arguments, the court adjourned the matter until Monday and instructed the accused’s counsel to acquire further instructions. Rashid Engineer remains in judicial custody related to the terror funding investigation.

His regular bail petition has been pending before the High Court for a considerable time. Previously, he was granted custody parole to attend Lok Sabha sessions.
