Cabinet approves extension of Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana-III to March 2028
The revised outlay for the scheme has been increased to Rs 83,977 crore from the original Rs 80,250 crore, according to an official release.
Among the key approvals, the Cabinet has extended the deadline until March 2028 for the completion of roads and bridges in plain areas, as well as roads in hilly regions.
Additionally, the timeline for finishing bridges in hilly areas has been extended until March 2029. Works sanctioned prior to March 31, 2025, but not yet awarded, may now proceed to tender or award.
Long Span Bridges (LSBs) – 161 units with an estimated cost of Rs 961 crore – that are pending sanction but situated along already approved road alignments may also be sanctioned and tendered or awarded.
The extension of PMGSY-III will facilitate the full achievement of its intended socio-economic benefits by ensuring the completion of targeted rural road upgrades.
The initiative is expected to enhance rural economy and trade by improving market access for agricultural and non-farm products, reducing transportation times and costs, and thereby increasing rural incomes.
